Mugendo Kickboxing Club On The Move
Publication: Irish Fighter
Issue 2, 2017
Fergal Lawlor, a professional Mugendo Kickboxing Coach and Personal Trainer based in County Meath, recently moved his successful club into a bigger and better location situated in the Aura Sports and Leisure Centre in Trim.
“Our former dojo became too small to accommodate our student body, so it was time to move to bigger premises”, Lawlor explained. The club’s largest grading, which saw close to 100 students new and current rank advance in the Mugendo system, took place recently at the club.
“We’ve also just taken on a new staff member, Peter Lawlor, my dad, to help manage with the large influx of new junior students”, Lawlor added, ” Peter is a great asset to us as he has vast experience working with children from his time as a scout leader for the past 17 years”. Lawlor says the large influx of new members is largely down to his new social media team member Eimer Duffy who promotes the Mugendo club through their social media platforms. “Eimer runs her own online social media marketing business called “FIT Social Media” and she’s very skilled at what she does”.
Two students from the club, Gavin Duffy and Roisin McGovern, competed in a recent “Best of the Best” competition in Dublin and recorded a good outing, fighting light continuously, Duffy came joint third in a division of 15 fighters despite being the smallest in his group. His winning opponent went on to take the gold, which was encouraging to the game Duffy.
Meanwhile, McGovern applied herself and fought well, but lost out in the end. “Gavin and Roisin did themselves and the dojo proudly and are now definitely spurred on to compete again after their enjoyable and positive experience”, Lawlor said.
Lawlor’s club has gone from strength to strength since it first opened in 2009. “We have a great cadre of students who are very positive and dedicated and we plan to grow and serve the community of Trim for years to come”, Lawlor concluded.
